Stripe payment processing fees

Learn about Stripe's processing fees for online payments in Probuild, including rates for credit cards, digital wallets, and bank transfers.

Probuild integrates directly with Stripe to give you a professional, secure way to get paid faster. By using Stripe, you can accept payments via credit cards, digital wallets, and bank transfers directly from your invoices.

Processing Fees

Stripe uses a transparent, flat-rate pricing model. You only pay when you get paid — there are no monthly or hidden fees for using the payment integration.

Payment Method Typical Fee (Domestic) Notes
Credit & Debit Cards 2.9% + $0.30 Includes Visa, Mastercard, Amex, and Discover.
Digital Wallets 2.9% + $0.30 Supports Apple Pay and Google Pay.
ACH Direct Debit 0.8% (Capped at $5.00) Best for large invoices and bank-to-bank transfers.
International Cards + 1.5% Applied if the card is issued outside of your country.

How long does it take to get my money?

Your first payout takes 7–14 days while Stripe completes security verification on your account. After that initial holding period, Stripe releases funds on a rolling payout schedule, with 2 business days being the standard, though Stripe may place your account on a longer schedule (7-day, 14-day, or longer) based on their risk assessment of your industry, chargeback history, or account activity. Once released, payouts typically take 1–2 business days to arrive, depending on your bank.

Is it secure?

Yes. Probuild never stores your client’s sensitive card data. All transactions are handled by Stripe, which is certified as a PCI Level 1 Service Provider — the highest security level in the industry.

What happens if a payment is disputed?

When a client disputes a charge, two separate fees can come into play:

  • Dispute fee ($15.00): Charged by Stripe as soon as the dispute is filed. This fee is non-refundable regardless of the outcome. Once a dispute is opened, you pay it.
  • Dispute counter fee ($15.00): Charged if you choose to contest the dispute by submitting evidence. This fee is refunded if you win.

Stripe will immediately place a hold on the disputed funds while the case is reviewed. You’ll then have the option to submit evidence and contest the dispute.

  • If you don’t contest, you forfeit the full value of the original charge and pay the $15.00 dispute fee.
  • If you contest and win, the held funds are released back to you and the counter fee is refunded. Your net cost is the $15.00 dispute fee.
  • If you contest and lose, you forfeit the full value of the original charge, and both the dispute fee and counter fee are kept by Stripe (a total of $30.00 in fees plus the lost charge).

Keep detailed records of your work, communications, and delivery confirmations. These are your primary evidence if a dispute ever arises.

What about refunds?

You can refund a charge (partially or in full) at any time through your Stripe dashboard. Keep in mind that Stripe does not return the original processing fees when you issue a refund, so a refunded payment still costs you the 2.9% + $0.30 (or applicable fee).

Important: A client can still dispute a charge even after you’ve refunded it. If that happens and you lose the dispute, you’ll be on the hook for:

  • The full value of the original charge (the disputed amount)
  • The refund you already issued to the client
  • The $15.00 dispute fee (plus the $15.00 counter fee, if you chose to contest)

In effect, you pay for the same invoice twice, plus dispute fees. To protect yourself whenever you issue a refund:

  • Document the reason for the refund in writing (email or in-app messaging)
  • Get written acknowledgment from the client that the refund resolves the matter
  • Keep copies of all communication in case you need to contest a later dispute
